Facebook has become the most popular social network on the web, with more than 400 million active online users from around the world (but mostly from North America and in particular from the US). Several months passed (mainly on holidays) last year when the number of page views on Facebook exceeded the number of Google users by several million people in the United States.
Imagine that in a month Facebook received more than 300,000,000,000 (300 billion) views, which is more than the biggest search engine. And people agree that this trend will continue, and soon Facebook can achieve a stable monthly number of page views, which is higher than that of Google. The main reason why this happens is millions of people who merely use the Internet to communicate with their friends and other people. Even if they use Google to search for some information, the number of search requests is likely to be lower than the pages visited and profiles on Facebook.
But Facebook is not just a social network for communication. Everything has changed with the introduction of Facebook applications, which can be developed by anyone with excellent programming skills, using their API and code. Currently, hundreds of thousands of Facebook applications, ranging from applications for calendar management and task management, end with various interesting games, and developers make millions of them.
Below you will find some of the most popular (and best by definition) games that you can play on Facebook.
Farmhouse villa. This is the most popular game currently played by Facebook, with more than 90 million active users (as of March). This is a simple, but fascinating game in which you own and care for your farm. You can plant crops, grow animals, earn coins, create gardens and much more. You can cooperate or compete with other players, help them and allow them to help you, which is a good integration with the main mission of Facebook.
Mafia Wars. As you might have guessed, in this game, you are playing as a mafia boss. Although this is not a 3D game (for example, “Mafia,” an excellent game for Windows), it is still fascinating, mainly because you are playing with other real people and you never know what will happen next. You can launder money, run illegal underground games, buy machine guns and “delete” other players, and do what Mafiosi does, only without breaking the law.
Bejeweled Blitz. This is a version of Facebook with a viral puzzle game, which is already available for most platforms, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iPhone, and others. The game is the same – you need to match the precious stones, but this does not make it less fascinating. You simply switch from a stand-alone version, which you must install to the online version, which also gives you the opportunity to compete (in dozens) with other Facebook users.
Restaurant City. This game is very similar to FarmVille, but instead of taking care of the farm, you own and operate the restaurant. Your responsibilities will include managing your employees and money, finding ingredients to create new dishes (you can also exchange them with friends on Facebook) and do other things that people in business do in the restaurant industry. This is a rather interesting alternative to FarmVille if you are not engaged in agriculture and rural areas :-).
There are many other games, from puzzles to RPGs to races (although without any fantastic 3D effects). You just need to look for those that you like and subscribe to them. But if you are new to this, you can easily start with a couple of the games above. They are one of the best because the millions of people who play them can not be wrong.
